Prospect Watch, the Beginning

Man do I love baseball.  And man do I love the New York Yankees.  We are a week into spring training and I am so excited for the season.  I was actually disappointed the Yanks had an off day this week.  Like, they couldn’t have just thrown a bunch of minor leaguers out there and had a game?  Come on.  Oh well.

While it’s cool to see guys like Judge and Cole back in the pinstripes, and new guys like Soto, Verdugo, and Strowman, make their debuts, what I really love about spring training is watching the young guys.  I read about these guys all season long and I check out the box scores and their stays throughout the year but I never really get to see them play.  I’ve seen Verdugo and Strowman and the other vets play. I know how Cole and Soto and the rest of the established players are going to play this year.  There are really just three veterans worth watching this spring.  Rodon, Cortez, and Rizzo.   Rodon and Nester are the biggies.  They need to be good this season for the Yankees to be serious contenders.  Rodon needs to figure things out and Nester has to return to form.  They have each had a start as of this writing and they both looked fine.  It will not be until they get further into the spring and start throwing more than a couple of innings per game before we will be able to tell where they are at.

The NBA’s Worst Kept Secret

I would say the Celtics are playing as well as can be expected this season. Some games are better than others. Some (most, really) games they look like world beaters and others they make you wonder how on Earth they could have lost. But overall, they really shouldn’t be expected to play better. That’s not the secret.

It’s also not a secret that the NBA season is a grind. It’s not Major League Baseball, but 82 games with lots of travel all over the country and even into Canada squeezed into 6 months isn’t easy.. To expect teams to be at their best every game is just ridiculous. Teams and individual players will have ups and downs. If you get upset every time one of the downs happens, you really need to look at the big picture.

The 2024 Yankees

How big of a Yankee fan am I?  Well, I have been a die hard, life long 49ers fan.  They played in the Superbowl this Sunday.  For the last 2 weeks since the NFC Championship game all I could think about was…. the Yankees line up.  As excited as I was for the 49ers and how badly I wanted them to win, with pitchers and catcher reporting this week, the only thing on my mind is the Yankees batting order and how bad Boone and company are going to screw it up.

It’s been established that they plan on batting Juan Soto second and Aaron Judge 3rd.  Even Judge mentioned it at an event he was at.  This blows my mind.  For the last 2 seasons all we heard about from anyone around the Yankees, reporters, fans, etc, is that the Yankees need someone to bat behind Judge.  They need to get Judge some protection so teams can’t pitch around him.  So they go out and actually get Juan Soto, which I have been calling for since he was on Washington, and they want to bat him in front of Judge.  Really??!?  After 2 years, we finally get a guy and they want to bat him ahead of Judge.

Hello Sports Fans!!!! (and really bored people)

Hello everyone.  This is my new sports blog.  Basically I’ll be sharing my thoughts on everything sports that I have an interest in.  Be it the 4 major American sports, the WNBA, Poker, fantasy sports, Bass fishing (both pro and my own outings), or any other competition I feel the need to comment on.  Now, I’ll be honest, I will be focusing on my 5 favorite teams, The New York Yankees, The Boston Bruins, The Phoenix Mercury,  The Boston Celtics, and the San Fransisco 49ers.  However, I will also be discussing other teams, players, and leagues as I see fit.

I will be posting all types of articles from long rants to smaller reaction posts to my world famous (well, maybe not) Mercury game updates, to random thought bullet point posts, and probably a lot of short Tweet like posts.  I’ll be posting as often as I get ideas.  I will try to post rather regularly and it will be any where from a few times a week to a few times a day as the need arises.  The format of the blog will be in flux as I come up with new ideas and get rid of any bad ones (like I ever have a bad idea).

I feel I must worn you of a couple of things…

      1) My typing sucks and my spelling and grammar aren’t much better.  For the most part I will be doing my best to spell check my posts and what not but seeing as this site has no spell check of it’s own I can’t make any guarantees. Also I will probably posting from my phone which will add to the type-O’s as my chubby fingers don’t do well on it’s little keyboard.
